Beyond Memory Theatre Company – Capturing memories from the source of the self.
Beyond Memory are a theatre company who use the techniques of reminiscence theatre to create poignant performances for all in society. We work with women as we feel we can relate to them more being an all-female theatre company; this avoids giving a false interpretation of the male gender and generation. Our themes throughout our work are health, society and senses, and how they affect, yet support people’s history, life and memory.
During a previous project our theatre company was formed; creating a reminiscence performance exploring women’s roles adventuring through 1940s wartime to present day. This was our first experience of using memory as a stimulus for performance, therefore sparking ideas for future projects.
Our aims are to…
- Create theatre for all ages through memories and the history of the older generations.
- Explore the social benefits of the older generations putting their voice back into the visual society through theatre and its techniques.
- Include wider art forms such as dance, music and poetry within workshops and performances for additional stimulus and influence, also to encourage engagement with the work.
All of our work, findings and creative material made will result in an end performance for the residents to reminisce within and for outer communities and societies to experience.
